Malaysia Economic Forum 2026 Highlights Path to Balanced Growth

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Economic Forum 2026 with the theme “Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia”, was launched on 5 February and will serve as a platform to determine the country’s economic direction under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

Policymakers, business leaders, academics and civil society met to discuss ways for fair growth. The forum underscored that policies must be effectively executed to make sure economic results translate into benefits for the people.

His Excellency Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, the Premier of Sarawak was present for the forum, indicating Sarawak’s strong role in the support of Malaysia’s overall economic objectives. His attendance emphasised Sarawak’s willingness to work together with the Federal Government in promoting national resilience and balanced development.

The event’s forum programme was graced with a keynote address from Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, which underscored that Malaysia remained committed to pursuing growth even amidst challenging times. A thematic discussion was held today to initiate a series of such discussions which are aimed at bringing the country’s economic trajectories in line with its long-term sustainability aspirations.

There were two main tracks that structured the discussions, addressing such critical areas as AI adoption, sustainability management, energy transition, local technology empowerment and health system reform. The discussions in these sessions were on how Malaysia can be a future forward nation while ensuring that services are affordable, fair and high-quality for the citizens of our country.

Other issues discussed were trade and investment strategies to diversify the economy and grow Malaysia’s global market access. The forum also looked at the development of future talent, reform of the housing sector and plans to tackle issues arising from an ageing population as China’s demographic profile changes.

Sarawak’s Mission Chair and Premier, stressed on balanced development, adding that Sarawak’s presence at the forum reflected its intention to be a part of nation building. The state government’s emphasis on sustainability and inclusivity also conforms to the larger context of economic resilience in Malaysia.

The Malaysia Economic Forum 2026 has established itself as a forum to discuss and collaborate on precedence for meeting of minds. The talks will influence the formation of policies that not only facilitate economic expansion, but also lead to growth that is equitable and sustainable to all Malaysians.
