GYEONGJU – Malaysia’s ambitions to become a regional artificial intelligence hub have received renewed impetus following high-level discussions with technology industry leaders. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has concluded his second meeting with NVIDIA Corporation Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang and YTL Power Managing Director Dato’ Yeoh Seok Hong.
This latest engagement builds upon previous announcements made during their initial meeting in Putrajaya, where a substantial investment of RM10 billion was committed towards developing AI infrastructure powered by renewable energy.
The continued dialogue underscores a determined tripartite partnership between the Malaysian government, NVIDIA, and YTL Power.
During the discussions, significant progress was highlighted across several key initiatives within Malaysia’s digital transformation roadmap. Notable advancements include the establishment of the National AI Office and the official launch of the ILMU initiative, both central to the country’s Sovereign AI agenda.
Perhaps the most tangible outcome of this collaboration is the successful development of a world-class AI data centre located in Kulai, Johor. This facility represents a joint venture between YTL Power and NVIDIA, positioning Malaysia as a serious contender in the regional digital infrastructure landscape.
