MANCHESTER, 30 April 2025 – A Malaysian delegation led by the Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, visited DUET Salford Quays in MediaCityUK as part of a study on innovative and sustainable urban housing models.

The visit highlighted DUET as one of the UK’s most prominent build-to-rent (BTR) developments. Strategically located in the heart of Salford’s MediaCityUK, DUET showcases a forward-thinking housing concept specifically designed for urban professionals. The development offers professionally managed rental apartments, equipped with co-working spaces, a fitness centre, social lounges, and dedicated tenant service teams – all focused on enhancing the lifestyle and convenience of residents.
Dr Sim and the delegation took a closer look at how the UK private sector plays a major role in developing and managing high-density rental housing. This approach ensures quality living standards, especially for young professionals and city dwellers who value flexibility, security, and community-focused facilities over traditional home ownership.
The visit was part of a broader effort to explore international best practices that could influence housing solutions in Malaysia, particularly in urban centres like Kuching, Kuala Lumpur, and Johor Bahru. With rising urban populations, the concept of purpose-built rental communities is gaining attention as a potential solution to local housing challenges.
Dr Sim noted that the insights from DUET Salford Quays could inspire new housing policies in Sarawak and across Malaysia. The build-to-rent model not only addresses housing demand but also supports economic growth by attracting talent and improving the quality of urban living.
