Man Dies in Tragic Lorry Crash at Engkelili Quarry, Sri Aman

SRI AMAN: A tragic accident at Engkelili Quarry, Sri Aman, claimed the life of a lorry driver after his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision this afternoon. The victim, identified as Seblie Jerandeng, 54, was trapped inside the lorry, which was fully loaded with rocks.

According to the Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (PGO), they received an emergency call at 6.52 pm regarding the accident. A team from the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station (BBP), led by PBK II (TBBK I) Elijah Tiyit, was immediately dispatched to the scene, located 22 kilometres away.

Rescue personnel arrived at the location at 7.15 pm and found the victim still inside the wreckage, unconscious. Due to the severity of the crash and the heavy load inside the lorry, firefighters had to use an excavator to reposition the vehicle before extracting the victim with special rescue equipment.

Despite their efforts, the Ministry of Health (MOH) Medical Officer who arrived at the scene confirmed that Seblie Jerandeng had passed away. His body was then handed over to the police for further investigation.

This unfortunate accident highlights the dangers faced by heavy vehicle drivers, especially those operating in high-risk areas such as quarries. Authorities urge all drivers to exercise caution and follow strict safety measures to prevent such tragic incidents.

Our condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the victim. Investigations into the cause of the accident are still ongoing.
