Man Feared Missing After Falling Into River at Kampung Kelaoh Jetty

LUNDU, Dec 25: A routine morning turned tragic when a 60-year-old man fell into the river near the Kampung Kelaoh jetty and was swept away by strong currents. The incident happened as the man was tidying his boat.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) in Lundu received an emergency call at 8.20am. According to a witness, the man had fallen into the river and called for help as he struggled to swim back to the riverbank.

The witness immediately took action by preparing his boat to rescue the man. Unfortunately, by the time he reached the location, the man had disappeared, believed to have been carried away by the river’s strong currents.

The victim was last seen wearing a blue long-sleeve shirt and black tracksuit.

Following the report, a search and rescue (SAR) operation commenced at 8.50am. Three firefighters were deployed to comb the river near the scene of the incident. Despite their efforts, the man has yet to be located as of this report.

Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area and allow the rescue team to work efficiently. Family members of the victim have also been notified and are assisting with the ongoing search.

Strong river currents are common during this rainy season, and residents are reminded to exercise caution while near water bodies.

The SAR operation is expected to continue until the man is found. Updates will be provided as the situation develops.
