Serian, July 8 – The serene town of Serian was jolted awake early this morning following a shooting incident that left three men wounded. The local police are now on a manhunt for the suspect, believed to have used a shotgun in the attack.
At approximately 1:57 am, the Padawan district police were alerted to a shooting incident that occurred behind a supermarket at Mile 19, Jalan Kuching-Serian. A 26-year-old local man reported the incident, stating that three of his friends had been shot.
Upon arrival at the scene, police discovered three young men, aged 24 and 25, with gunshot wounds. The victims were promptly transported to the Sarawak General Hospital where they are currently receiving medical treatment. According to Padawan district police chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz Md Radzi, all three victims are now in stable condition.
The police have launched an investigation under Section 307 of the Penal Code, which pertains to attempted murder, as well as Section 8 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971. The authorities are actively pursuing leads to apprehend the suspect responsible for this heinous act.
The shooting has left the Serian community in shock. Residents are concerned about the sudden outbreak of violence in their usually peaceful town. Local shopkeeper John Tan shared his thoughts, “I’ve lived here for over 20 years, and nothing like this has ever happened. We hope the police can catch the suspect soon and restore peace to our community.”
The police are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward. “We need the community’s help in this matter. Any information, no matter how small, could be crucial in our investigation,” stated Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz.
