MIRI – In celebration of Sarawak Day 2025, the people of Miri were presented with a meaningful and transformative gift: the launch of the Marina Bridge construction project, a monumental development expected to reshape the suburban landscape of the city.

The project was officially unveiled during a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, led by the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, and attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also the Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development.

The Marina Bridge, a 650-metre Cable Stayed Bridge featuring two traffic lanes, comes with an estimated cost of RM450 million. Once completed, it will dramatically reduce travel between Marina Miri and Pulau Malay, cutting the current 12-kilometre route down to just 2 kilometres.

“This bridge will serve as the third complement to the road network connecting Jalan Pesisir, Jalan Miri-Pujut and Jalan Pan Borneo, and will significantly ease traffic congestion through Miri City towards Kuala Baram,” said Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah in his address.

He emphasised that the Marina Bridge is not merely a physical structure but a strategic catalyst aimed at bridging the economic divide between urban Miri and regions across the river. It is part of Sarawak’s larger vision to develop Greater Miri as a regional growth hub.

Uggah further noted that the new connectivity will boost property values, open new development zones, and reduce traffic bottlenecks around Miri.

“Undoubtedly, this will also become a major tourist attraction,” he added, highlighting the bridge’s proximity to scenic locations such as the Piasau Nature Reserve, Piasau Boat Club, Miri Golf Course, and the coastal seaside area.

The Marina Bridge project not only signifies Sarawak’s continuous commitment to infrastructure advancement but also stands as a proud symbol of progress and unity for the people of Miri on Sarawak Day 2025.
