KUCHING, 13 May 2025 — The Marine Police Region 5 team has successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle 16,000 litres of illegal diesel in a swift and coordinated operation, Op Taring Landai, conducted along Jalan Keruing, near Menara Pelita in Pending.

According to Acting Commander of the Marine Police Force Region 5, Superintendent Rusdin Banin, the operation led to the arrest of two locals — a man who was driving a tanker truck and a woman accompanying him.

“Upon inspection by our Marine Intelligence Unit, both individuals failed to provide valid documentation, such as a fuel transportation permit or written permission from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN),” Rusdin stated.

The total value of the diesel seized is estimated at RM257,000, and the case has since been handed over to the Ministry of National Development and Reform for further investigation under the Supply Control Act 1961.

Superintendent Rusdin further stressed the importance of public cooperation in battling illegal fuel smuggling, urging citizens to continue reporting suspicious activities.

“Those found guilty under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961 can face imprisonment, a fine, or both,” he added.

This operation showcases the firm stance taken by the Marine Police in tackling the illegal distribution and transportation of controlled goods, which pose threats to both national security and the country’s economy.

Authorities have reminded the public that any involvement in illegal fuel activities can lead to severe consequences and that transparency and legal compliance are essential for all transportation of controlled substances like diesel.
