MUKAH (Dec 28): A devastating fire razed a single-storey wooden house to the ground in Kampung Seri Petanak, Mukah, on Friday night, leaving the local community in shock.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that they received an emergency call about the incident at 8.08pm. A team of seven firefighters from the Mukah fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival, the team found that the fire had completely engulfed the single-storey wooden house. Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the incident,” said the department in a statement.
The firefighting operation concluded at 9.16pm after the firefighters ensured that the area was safe. The cause of the fire and the total damages incurred are still under investigation.
The incident has sparked concerns among the villagers about fire safety, especially as many homes in the area are traditional wooden structures that are highly flammable. Community leaders have urged residents to remain vigilant and ensure that electrical wiring and other potential fire hazards are regularly checked.
Authorities are also emphasizing the importance of having fire extinguishers at home and being aware of emergency protocols to minimize the risk of such tragedies.
This unfortunate event highlights the need for continued public education on fire safety measures in rural communities.
