Matang Car Blaze Destroys Ford Cougar in Morning Fire Incident

KUCHING, 11 May – A Ford Cougar was completely destroyed in a fire this morning at Jalan FAC, Matang, in an incident that caused alarm among nearby residents but thankfully resulted in no injuries.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), an emergency call was received at 11.34am, alerting them to a vehicle fire. A team from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, led by PBK II (TBK I) Asmadi Mohammad Nawei, was dispatched immediately to the scene, located about 18 kilometres from the station.

The team arrived at 11.52am and discovered that the vehicle – a Ford Cougar – was already 100% engulfed in flames. Swift action was taken using a single hose and water supply from the fire engine’s transport pump.

“Firemen managed to control the blaze by 12.00 noon, and the operation was officially concluded by 12.16pm,” JBPM said in a statement today.

Preliminary investigations have yet to determine the cause of the fire. However, authorities confirmed that no casualties or injuries were reported. The burnt-out car remained at the scene pending further inspection.

This incident serves as a reminder for all vehicle owners to ensure their cars are regularly maintained and to be cautious about potential fire hazards, especially in older vehicles or during hot weather conditions.

Photos of the aftermath circulated on social media show the completely burnt frame of the Ford Cougar, drawing concern from netizens and locals familiar with the Matang area.

Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and urge the public to report any similar incidents immediately through the 999 emergency hotline.
