APM Matu Destroys Wasp Nest at SK Bawang Tian

MATU – The Matu District Civil Defence Force (APM) successfully mitigated a potential public safety hazard at SK Bawang Tian this week after receiving a report of a dangerous wasp nest. The operation, classified as a Special Services Case (MSS), took place on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

The Matu District Operations Control Centre (PKOD) received an urgent call from the public alerting them to the presence of a large wasp nest located on the school’s field fence. Given the potential for students and staff to be stung, the APM team prioritised a rapid response to the location.

Upon arriving at the scene, the responding officers met with the complainant, who pointed out the precise location of the nest on the perimeter fencing.

The team then assessed the environment to ensure that the area was clear of bystanders before deploying specialised equipment for the removal.

The nest was successfully destroyed using the insecticide spraying method, which effectively neutralised the colony.

Once the operation was concluded, the team performed a final sweep of the area to confirm that no remaining hazards posed a threat to the school community.

“The operation was successfully completed using the insecticide spraying method (Ridsect), and the situation was confirmed to be safe,” the Matu APM reported.

The Civil Defence Force continues to serve as a vital resource for rural schools and residential areas in the Matu district, handling hazardous insect removals that fall outside the purview of standard maintenance services.

The public is reminded to maintain a safe distance from hives or nests of stinging insects and to contact the APM immediately for professional assistance rather than attempting removal manually.
