KUCHING – The Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, attended the Sarawak-level Maulidur Rasul Assembly and Parade 1447H/2025M held at Padang Merdeka this morning.
The event was graced by the presence of the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Haji Wan Junaidi bin Tuanku Jaafar, who delivered a special message during the ceremony.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Quran, prayers, nasyid performances and a message highlighting the importance of Prophet Muhammad SAW’s example in guiding the Muslim community.
In his speech, Tun Wan Junaidi called on Muslims in Sarawak to follow the teachings of the Prophet as a source of inspiration in life and progress.
“The theme Ummah Maju Makmur is very much in line with our aspirations in Sarawak. It reflects our aim to build a nation not only advanced in economy and development but also strong in values, knowledge and morals,” he said.
He stressed that Prophet Muhammad SAW, as a blessing to the world, remains the perfect role model for Muslims, especially in strengthening unity and development in the state.
Following the ceremony, the Yang di-Pertua Negeri together with the Premier of Sarawak led the Maulidur Rasul procession. The one-kilometre parade started at Padang Merdeka and continued to Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol.
This year’s state-level Maulidur Rasul Assembly and Parade carried the theme Ummah Maju Makmur and attracted nearly 9,600 participants from 209 contingents. The contingents included representatives from government departments, uniformed bodies, statutory agencies, private organisations, mosques, suraus, village committees (JKKK), higher education institutions, schools and cultural groups.
The Sarawak Premier arrived at the venue at 7.55am and was welcomed by Datuk Dr Haji Abdul Rahman Junaidi, Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agency Coordinator, Kuching North City Hall and Islamic Affairs).
Also in attendance were Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah bin Haji Yusof, President of the Sarawak Islamic Council Datuk Haji Misnu bin Haji Taha, and Director of the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department Haji Mual bin Haji Suaud.
