KUCHING – The state-level Maulidur Rasul celebration in Sarawak this year embraced the theme “Ummah Maju Makmur”, reflecting a broader aspiration to cultivate a community that thrives not only economically, but also intellectually, spiritually, and ethically.
Speaking at the 1447H/2025M Maulidur Rasul gathering and procession held at Padang Merdeka on Thursday, Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, Sarawak’s Yang di-Pertua Negeri (The Governor), emphasized that the Prophet Muhammad’s legacy offers enduring guidance for leadership, development, and moral conduct.
He described the celebration as a moment to reaffirm the values of integrity, unity, and compassion that underpin Sarawak’s progress.
“Maulidur Rasul is not just a celebration, but a step to renew the goal of exemplifying the good behavior and ability of the Prophet SAW as a leader, and creating a prosperous Sarawak and loyal to the Sunnah of His Majesty.” Yang di-Pertua Negeri said.
“Loyalty to the Prophet is expressed through prayers, community marches, lectures, and charitable acts.” Yang di-Pertua Negeri said.
The Governor also highlighted the Islamic principles of imarah (development) and tazkiyah (purification), which advocate for holistic growth that balances worldly advancement with spiritual well-being.
He reiterated Sarawak’s commitment to the maqasid syariah framework, which guides policymaking to safeguard faith, life, intellect, lineage, and property.
In line with this, the state’s Post-COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030 continues to focus on inclusive and sustainable development across digital economy, environmental stewardship, and social equity. Tun Pehin Sri Dr. Wan Junaidi urged citizens to uphold these values collectively, ensuring justice and prosperity for all.
He concluded by encouraging Sarawak’s Muslim community to emulate the Prophet’s leadership qualities of honesty, integrity, and responsibility as the foundation for a thriving and harmonious society.
