MBHT Urged to Shape Future Leaders for Sarawak's Green Agenda

MBHT Urged to Shape Future Leaders for Sarawak’s Green Agenda

KUCHING, 4 May 2025 – The Kuching Mosque, Bintangor, and Haji Taha Brotherhood (MBHT) has been urged to play a proactive role in producing a generation that is skilled, knowledgeable, and aligned with Sarawak’s development goals—especially in the growing green energy sector.

Deputy Prime Minister, Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, made the call during the MBHT Aidilfitri 2025 Reception held at a major hotel in Kuching on Sunday. He emphasised that Sarawak is far ahead of Peninsular Malaysia in developing renewable energy, especially hydropower and biogas.

He noted that Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself acknowledged Malaysia’s lag behind Sarawak in this area. “Peninsular Malaysia is still struggling with power supply issues due to low water resources, limited hydropower capacity, and unstable solar energy,” Fadillah said.

He stressed that to ensure energy security and attract investors, the state must not only produce energy through its own systems but also develop a skilled workforce to manage and lead the industry.

Fadillah highlighted that MBHT, being located in the heart of Kuching, has strategic advantages. “We are in the city centre, surrounded by universities, experts, and training centres. MBHT must take this opportunity to collaborate and train the next generation to contribute to Sarawak’s—and Malaysia’s—future.”

He also pointed out that renewable energy challenges are not unique to Malaysia. Countries like Spain and Portugal are also facing supply disruptions due to renewable energy fluctuations and weak transmission infrastructures.

The Petra Jaya MP further stressed that MBHT’s core values—culture, education, religion, and welfare—must guide their efforts, especially in helping Sarawak Malay children in need.

“Some of our youths are at risk of being homeless or falling outside government assistance. MBHT can help identify and assist these children so they can benefit from the support that is already available,” he said.

The event was also attended by Sarawak Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, MBHT Brotherhood President Mohamad Taufik Abdul Ghani, and other dignitaries. — UKAS EDITION
