MBKS Responds Swiftly to Fallen Tree Incident, Mayor Praises Unsung Heroes

KUCHING – A large tree fell and blocked one of the roads in Kuching South recently, causing concern among the public. However, the quick action by the team from Majlis Bandaraya Kuching Selatan (MBKS) helped restore normalcy in just one day.

Mayor of Kuching South, Dato Wee Hong Seng, has shared his appreciation for the hardworking staff and volunteers who acted immediately during the incident. According to the Mayor, as soon as the tree collapse was reported, MBKS’s Landscape Officer, supported by MBKS staff, contractors, and the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), responded quickly.

“Despite the pressure and difficult conditions, the team worked together to clear the tree and reopen the road for public safety and convenience,” said Dato Wee.

Two MBKS Councillors, Cr Eric Tay and Cr Albert Tay, also arrived at the scene. They took quick action to cordon off the area using warning tape to ensure the safety of passersby. “This kind of proactive response is part of our daily commitment at MBKS,” the Mayor said.

The next morning, Dato Wee personally visited the site with his Landscape Officer, Senior Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer to check the situation. He confirmed that the fallen tree had already been removed, and the damaged barricade was repaired within the same day.

While some members of the public had shared criticisms about the incident, Dato Wee urged for understanding and recognition of the efforts made by the MBKS team. “These men and women work long hours behind the scenes. They don’t do it for praise—they do it because they care,” he said.

The Mayor ended his message with gratitude to the MBKS Landscape Division, Engineering Division, contractors, and Bomba for their swift and dedicated response.

“This city is safe because of people like you. Thank you for showing what true dedication looks like,” he added.
