KUCHING – The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has once again shown its commitment to social welfare through the Caring Community Programme.
Today, 50 residents of the KMC Flats received food aid packages, an initiative aimed at easing the financial burden on vulnerable groups within the city.
The distribution was personally led by the Mayor of Kuching South City Council, Dato Wee Hong Seng, alongside Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi bin Suhaili and Councillors Eric Tay and Albert Tay.
To add a personal and compassionate touch, the leadership team visited individual units to hand over the supplies directly.
Speaking during the handover, Dato Wee emphasised that the initiative goes beyond just providing physical aid; it fosters a spirit of togetherness.
“The handover today is a reminder that collective care and shared responsibility are fundamental to a flourishing society,” he said.
The programme was strengthened through a partnership with Everise Departmental Store Sdn. Bhd., which donated the food items as part of its 32nd-anniversary celebrations.
Dato Wee praised the company’s contribution, noting that such Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts help improve residents’ lives and build stronger bonds between local government, private companies, and the community.
For many tenants, the food aid provides much-needed relief during challenging economic times. The initiative is a cornerstone of MBKS’s ongoing strategy to ensure no resident is left behind as the city develops.
“We will continue to expand our outreach efforts to ensure Kuching South remains caring and inclusive,” Dato Wee stated.
He also encouraged the community to maintain this culture of empathy, supporting one another to keep Kuching a liveable and compassionate city.
By systematically embedding welfare initiatives into urban management, MBKS aims to balance structural development with community well-being.
The council plans to grow these programmes in the future, ensuring that the most vulnerable residents receive the support needed to live with dignity and stability.
