MBKS Celebrates Hari Raya with Unity and New Leadership in 2025

KUCHING, 2025 – The spirit of Hari Raya Aidilfitri was alive and well as the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) held its Ramah Tamah Hari Raya MBKS 2025 celebration this morning, bringing together staff, councillors, and members of the community in a joyous occasion to mark the end of Syawal. The event was made even more meaningful as it celebrated not only the festive season but also the introduction of a new leadership role within the city administration.

MBKS Mayor, Dato’ Wee Hong Seng, in his opening speech, expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya together in good health and high spirits. “Hari Raya is not only a time for festive celebration but a reminder of the values of patience, gratitude, and unity. To see everyone here today in the spirit of harmony reflects the unity we continue to foster within our city administration,” he said.

He also took the opportunity to introduce Miss Ita Ling as the new City Secretary of MBKS, marking the end of a long period of having an acting City Secretary. The Mayor welcomed her leadership and expressed confidence in her ability to lead the city forward, saying, “We look forward to your leadership, dedication, and commitment to the progress of our city.”

At the same time, Mayor Wee Hong Seng acknowledged the hard work and contributions of Mr Wong Ming Kong, the Acting City Secretary, thanking him for his tireless efforts and wishing him all the best in his future endeavors.

The event was also a reminder of the importance of working together as one strong team. Mayor Wee urged all councillors, heads of departments (HODs), and staff to continue their commitment to collaboration and mutual support for the betterment of the city and its people.

“Let us carry the spirit of Hari Raya – unity, understanding, and respect – into our daily work,” he said, wishing everyone Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Maaf Zahir dan Batin. “May we continue to grow stronger together as one team, one family.”

This year’s Ramah Tamah Hari Raya celebration serves as a testament to the strength of community, leadership, and collaboration at MBKS.
