KUCHING – The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has announced that applications for stall operators at the upcoming Ramadan Bazaar will open on 22 December 2025 and run until 6 January 2026.
Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng confirmed that a total of 160 stalls will be made available this year. Interested applicants can submit their forms at the One-Stop Service Counter 9, located at the Kuching South City Hall Lobby along Jalan Padungan.
The bazaar is scheduled to take place from 19 February to 20 March 2026, with the parking areas at the Stutong Commercial Centre and the Stutong Community Market designated as the official venues.
MBKS has maintained these locations for several years, citing their accessibility and capacity to accommodate large crowds.
In a press briefing, Dato Wee highlighted MBKS’s continued commitment to social responsibility. He announced that the MySaveFood Ramadan Project, organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the GEMA Youth Organisation, will once again be implemented.
The initiative aims to reduce food wastage by increasing the collection of surplus food by 20 percent compared to previous years.
The mayor also encouraged stall operators to showcase creative and high-quality food offerings, aligning with Kuching’s recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.
He emphasised that vendors should uphold standards of cleanliness, environmental sustainability, and community responsibility throughout the bazaar.
The Ramadan Bazaar has long been a highlight in Kuching’s cultural calendar, drawing thousands of visitors each year.
It provides a platform for local entrepreneurs to promote traditional and modern delicacies, while also fostering community spirit during the fasting month.
MBKS has assured that strict hygiene measures will be enforced, with regular monitoring to ensure compliance.
The council also urged vendors to adopt eco-friendly practices, including reducing single-use plastics and supporting food redistribution efforts.
With preparations underway, the 2026 Ramadan Bazaar is expected to be one of the largest yet, combining culinary creativity with sustainability initiatives.
The council hopes the event will not only strengthen Kuching’s reputation as a gastronomic hub but also serve as a model for responsible community events.
