MATU: The 2025 Sarawak Central Zone Local Authority (PBT) Sports Carnival officially kicked off on Thursday with a vibrant opening ceremony held at Gelanggang Petanque Matu, celebrating increased participation and sportsmanship among civil servants.

Officiating the event was Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Integrity and Ombudsman) and Jemoreng Assemblyman, YB Dato’ Murshid Diraja Dr. Juanda Jaya, who praised the Matu and Daro District Council (MDMD) for successfully hosting the event for a second consecutive year.

“The expansion from four to seven sporting events proves the strong spirit of camaraderie and our PBTs’ commitment to promoting unity and a healthy lifestyle among civil servants.”

He further affirmed the Sarawak Government’s commitment to upholding good governance through transparency, integrity, and administrative excellence.

As Chairman of the Special Cabinet Committee for Sarawak PBT Audit, Dr. Juanda also highlighted that all audited local authorities in 2024 recorded clean audit results, a strong indicator of accountable financial management in line with Sarawak Maju 2030.

“You – our civil servants – are the backbone of realising this vision for a progressive Sarawak,” he added.

During the opening, certificates of appreciation were presented to all participating PBTs in recognition of their dedication. A Bucida Batik/Putih tree was also ceremonially planted by Dr. Juanda at the Matu futsal court to symbolise growth, unity, and sustainability.
