The RM120,000 project involves the construction of a riverside staircase and elevated platforms, designed to provide secure and convenient access to the river, a vital resource for washing, fishing, and transportation.

Meluan State Assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin presided over the groundbreaking ceremony, underscoring the government’s commitment to rural upliftment.

He highlighted that completion is targeted for March 2, 2026, benefiting the 25-room longhouse community. The new structures will mitigate risks associated with slippery banks and uneven terrain, particularly during wet seasons.

Beyond physical improvements, Duat emphasized education and economic diversification, encouraging residents to adopt modern agricultural practices to boost household incomes.

He also introduced ceramic water filtration systems proven technology capable of delivering clean, potable water without electricity to address longstanding concerns over water quality.

In a gesture of gender-inclusive development, the Women’s Bureau received RM2,000 for kitchen upgrades, while an additional RM10,000 was allocated for community-led initiatives ranging from skills training to hygiene programs.

Officials noted these measures align with broader state efforts to bridge urban-rural divides through localized, participatory development.
