Meradong Festival 2025 Celebrates Unity and Cultural Creativity

MERADONG – The Meradong Festival 2025, themed “Harmony in Diversity”, concluded on Sunday with a vibrant celebration that highlighted unity, creativity and cultural appreciation among the local community.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Meradong State Assemblyman (ADUN), Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, at the festival’s Main Stage.

In his address, he expressed gratitude to organisers, participants and sponsors, particularly the Sarawak Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP), which contributed RM100,000 to support the event.

Datuk Ding emphasised the importance of sustaining the spirit of unity beyond the festival, urging residents to continue embracing cultural appreciation in everyday life.

He also highlighted the role of the younger generation in becoming agents of future unity, stressing that cultural values must be nurtured to strengthen community bonds.

The festival showcased a wide range of activities, including sports tournaments, cultural exhibitions, entrepreneurship programmes, local product sales, concerts and art performances. These events not only entertained but also demonstrated the district’s creativity and collective progress.

Visitors and participants noted that the festival had become a symbol of cooperation across different races and cultural backgrounds.

The theme “Harmony in Diversity” resonated strongly, reflecting Meradong’s commitment to inclusivity and shared growth.

Organisers highlighted that the festival’s success was a result of collaboration between government agencies, local businesses and community groups.

The involvement of MTCP underscored the state’s support for initiatives that promote tourism, creative industries and cultural heritage.

The Meradong Festival has steadily grown into a key annual event, reinforcing the district’s identity as a hub of cultural exchange and community spirit.

Its diverse programme continues to attract residents and visitors alike, strengthening social ties and encouraging economic participation through local entrepreneurship.

As the festival concluded, Datuk Ding reiterated his call for unity and cultural appreciation to remain central to Meradong’s development.

He noted that the festival’s achievements should inspire ongoing efforts to build a harmonious and creative society.
