BINTANGOR: The Meradong District Police have intensified efforts to curb illegal racing and motorcycle modifications by launching a targeted Motorcycle Operation (Ops) along Jalan KJD early this morning, resulting in the issuance of 10 summonses and the seizure of a motorcycle.
According to Meradong District Police Chief, DSP Tansli Mering, the operation, conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of IPD Meradong, began at midnight and continued until 3.00 am.
He said the main goal of the operation was to ensure that motorcyclists comply with road safety laws and that all vehicles meet the required technical standards.
“This operation is being carried out to combat illegal racing activities, motorcycle modifications, and to ensure that motorcyclists follow the law and the prescribed vehicle specifications,” DSP Tansli said in a statement.
He revealed that a total of 10 summonses were issued for various traffic offences during the operation. Among the offences recorded were riding without a valid driving licence, missing side mirrors, using modified exhaust pipes, expired motor vehicle licences (LKM), and registration numbers not following specifications.
Additionally, one motorcycle was confiscated due to severe non-compliance with modification rules.
DSP Tansli emphasised that such operations will continue from time to time to deter reckless behaviour and promote road discipline, especially among youth riders.
“We advise all motorcyclists to always obey road rules for their safety and that of others. Parents are also urged to keep an eye on their children’s activities to prevent them from being involved in illegal or risky behaviour,” he added.
The Meradong IPD continues to prioritise public safety through consistent monitoring and enforcement, reflecting the police’s ongoing commitment to maintaining peace and order on the roads.
