MERADONG – Two Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) projects have been launched in Meradong to strengthen community facilities and improve safety for local residents.
The initiatives, valued at nearly RM190,000, reflect the state government’s ongoing commitment to rural development.
The site handover ceremony for one of the projects was held on Wednesday, witnessed by Meradong State Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing.
The projects will be implemented by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarikei Division under the state’s rural infrastructure agenda.
The first project, with an allocation of RM90,000, focuses on upgrading electrical wiring and improving the road frontage at Rh Tunjang, Sungai Lelabi, Bintangor.
The works include replacing outdated electrical systems to enhance safety and energy efficiency, alongside improving the access road in front of the longhouse.
The upgrades are expected to ease movement for residents, particularly during the rainy season when road conditions often deteriorate.
The second project, valued at RM100,000, involves infrastructure improvements at Balai Raya, Scheme B, Meradong. The scope includes constructing a new room, upgrading the awning, and reinforcing fencing.
These enhancements aim to provide a more secure and comfortable space for community activities, ensuring the facility remains a central hub for local gatherings.
Speaking at the ceremony, Datuk Ding stressed that the projects would be carried out in stages according to the approved schedule, with strict adherence to technical specifications. He emphasised that quality construction and long-term benefits for residents remain the government’s priority.
“The state government remains attentive to the needs of rural communities, especially in terms of basic infrastructure that directly improves quality of life. These RTP projects reflect our commitment to ensuring that rural areas in Meradong continue to progress in line with overall state development,” he said.
Assistant Civil Engineer Allif, representing JKR Sarikei Division, assured that continuous monitoring would be conducted throughout the implementation process to ensure smooth execution and timely completion.
Community leaders Tr Tunjang Naga and Tr Ravica Francis, who attended the event alongside local residents, expressed gratitude for the government’s efforts.
They noted that such projects not only improve safety and convenience but also foster stronger community spirit. Residents voiced hopes for more initiatives to support the growth and wellbeing of rural communities in Meradong.
The projects are part of Sarawak’s broader rural transformation agenda, which continues to prioritise infrastructure upgrades and community development across the state.
