KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian International Furniture Fair (MIFF) 2026 concluded its high-profile awards cycle on 6 March, shining a spotlight on the creative minds shaping the future of the industry.
Held at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the ceremony honoured both veteran exhibitors and the next generation of visionary designers.
This year’s flagship Furniture Design Competition (FDC) centred on a unique demographic: “Generation Alpha”.
Designers under the age of 40 were tasked with the theme ‘Playful, Practical, Purposeful’, creating bedroom furniture specifically for children aged five to nine.
The challenge required a delicate balance between a child’s imagination and the practical requirements of millennial parents.
The top prize was awarded to Jessica Antonius from the Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) for her entry titled ROEL.
Taking home the second prize was Doo Jade Qi of the Malaysian Institute of Art for GLORB, while Teh Jian Yin from The One Academy Penang secured third place with the REKA REKA SERIES.
A regional panel of experts, led by Dr Eric Leong, evaluated 138 entries from 37 different institutions. For the first time in the competition’s history, the final results factored in public votes from social media and on-site attendees, adding a layer of consumer validation to the judging criteria, which included ergonomics, safety, and sustainability.
In the corporate categories, the Furniture Excellence Award (Platinum) was presented to Eastern Decorator Sdn Bhd, followed by Luxury Sleep Products Sdn Bhd and Instyle Sofa Sdn Bhd, who took Gold and Silver respectively.
These awards highlight manufacturers who push the boundaries of aesthetic and visionary design within the global supply chain.
The Best Presentation Award, focusing on booth creativity and construction, saw Chuanheng Furniture Products Sdn Bhd take the top honour.
Chief Judge Enrico Cleva from Italy praised the high standards of this year’s exhibitors, noting that the level of presentation was on par with international benchmarks.
MIFF General Manager Ms Kelie Lim emphasised the importance of these awards in ensuring the industry’s longevity.
She noted that fostering emerging talent is essential to maintaining Malaysia’s reputation for original, design-orientated products that meet evolving global demands.
The ceremony, attended by Dato’ Razali Mohamad from the Ministry of Plantations and Commodities, served as a final highlight for the 32nd edition of the fair.
As the event wrapped up across its 17 halls, the showcased designs proved that Malaysia remains a vital hub for both manufacturing excellence and creative innovation.
