Mini POSKOM in Baleh Enhances Welfare Services Through Community Engagement

BALEH – The recently held Mini Outreach Santuni Komuniti (Mini POSKOM) in Bukit Mabong is being hailed as a vital step toward improving the delivery and accessibility of social welfare services in rural Sarawak.

Baleh State Assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai, who officiated the event at Rumah Killau, Skim Tunoh, emphasized that the program serves as a direct channel for community feedback on the procedures and support systems offered by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).

“This isn’t just about distributing aid, it’s about listening,” he said. “Face-to-face dialogue helps clear up confusion around application processes and ensures no one is left behind due to misinformation.”

The initiative brings together JKM officers, welfare volunteers, and residents to foster trust, share updates on new policies, and identify local needs in real time.

Nicholas highlighted how this grassroots interaction strengthens informal support networks within communities, making assistance more responsive and culturally appropriate.

He commended the staff of the Kapit Division Social Welfare Office and the Kapit Welfare Volunteers’ Association for their dedication in organizing the outreach, noting their efforts have transformed a routine service session into a meaningful platform for mutual understanding and long-term improvement.

With continued collaboration, officials believe Mini POSKOM can become a replicable model for other remote areas seeking to bridge gaps between government services and those who rely on them most.
