Minister of Works Strengthens Ties with Sarawak Public Works

KUCHING – A courtesy visit by YB Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Works, to YBhg Datu Adj Prof Ir Ts Gs Br PMr Dr Cassidy anak Morris, Director of Public Works Sarawak, was held in Kuching on 23 February 2026. The meeting highlighted the ongoing collaboration between the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government in advancing infrastructure development across the state.

The engagement was seen as a gesture of appreciation and a reaffirmation of the strategic partnership between both administrations. It provided an opportunity to discuss priorities, project implementation, and the shared commitment to ensuring that infrastructure initiatives benefit the people of Sarawak.

Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, who has served as Minister of Works since 2022, emphasised the importance of aligning federal and state efforts to accelerate development. He has consistently highlighted infrastructure as a key driver of economic growth and social well-being, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas where connectivity remains a challenge.

Dr Cassidy Morris, who assumed the role of Director of Public Works Sarawak in 2024, has been actively steering the department towards efficiency and innovation. Under his leadership, JKR Sarawak has introduced strategic programmes to strengthen collaboration with industry players, focusing on technology adoption and construction excellence.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed the direction of ongoing projects, including road upgrades, bridge construction, and health facility development. These initiatives are part of Sarawak’s broader plan to modernise infrastructure while ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet community needs.

The session also touched on the importance of transparency and accountability in project execution. Dr Cassidy has previously outlined departmental targets such as achieving zero critically delayed projects and enhancing governance standards within JKR Sarawak.

The visit reinforced the message that infrastructure development is not only about physical structures but also about improving quality of life. By strengthening cooperation between federal and state agencies, both parties aim to ensure that Sarawak’s development agenda remains on track.

This courtesy call reflects a broader pattern of engagement by the Ministry of Works, which has been actively meeting with state leaders to coordinate national and regional priorities. It underscores the government’s recognition that Sarawak’s unique geographical and socio-economic landscape requires tailored solutions and sustained investment.

As Sarawak continues to expand its infrastructure footprint, the partnership between the Ministry of Works and JKR Sarawak is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s future. The meeting in Kuching serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility to deliver projects that foster connectivity, resilience, and prosperity for the people.
