Man Arrested in Miri for Container Store Theft Incident

Man Arrested in Miri for Container Store Theft Incident

MIRI – A 35-year-old local man has been arrested by police in connection with a theft case involving a container storage unit in Miri. The arrest took place on 24 November 2025 following swift action by the Miri police team.

According to authorities, the operation was led by ASP Goldy Anak Jangan, Chief of Miri Police Station, together with a team from the Crime Prevention Patrol Unit (CPJ) of the Miri Central Police Station. The team detained the suspect at 1.20pm by the roadside in Tudan, Miri, after receiving information linked to the case.

During the arrest, police also seized a motorcycle believed to have been used by the suspect during the theft. This vehicle is now part of the ongoing investigation to determine the full extent of the suspect’s involvement and whether other individuals may also be connected.

The suspect has been placed in the lock-up at the Miri Central Police Station to assist further investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which deals with theft in a building or premises. Convictions under this section carry heavy penalties, reflecting the seriousness of property-related offences.

Police also reminded the public not to take part in any criminal activities or actions that violate the law. Instead, they encouraged residents to cooperate by sharing information that could help authorities maintain safety and reduce crime rates across Miri.

The reminder serves as a timely message, as police continue strengthening their crime prevention efforts across the district. Community involvement remains crucial in preventing property crimes, especially incidents involving storage containers, construction materials, and other valuable goods commonly targeted by thieves.

Members of the public are urged to stay alert, report suspicious behaviour, and support the authorities in safeguarding the community. Police stressed that cooperation between law enforcement and the people has always been a key factor in ensuring peace and security for the area.
