MIRI – Agencies and frontline workers involved in disaster management were recognised at the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee Appreciation Ceremony 2025, underscoring the city’s commitment to strengthening security and preparedness.
The event, held at the Grand Palace Hotel, highlighted the contributions of government departments, security forces, and private companies that played crucial roles in managing emergencies throughout the year.
Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Transport Minister, praised the collective efforts that ensured effective disaster response in Miri. He noted that companies providing cleaning machinery during floods significantly eased the burden on the Miri City Council.
“The success of the disaster operations in Miri is the result of close cooperation between various agencies, who remain ready to ensure the safety and well-being of the community is always maintained,” he said.
The Minister also expressed gratitude to frontline workers for their dedication in handling incidents such as the landslide in Kampung Lereng Bukit and the severe floods that affected Miri and Subis. Their commitment, he added, reflects the resilience of the city’s disaster management framework.
Certificates of appreciation were presented to agencies under the Miri Division Disaster Management Committee, acknowledging their contributions to emergency preparedness and response. Officers who had transferred duty stations were also recognised for their service.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries & Performing Arts I (Tourism), Galong Luan, Miri Resident, district officers, and Temonggong Boniface Bada.
Their presence reinforced the importance of collaboration between state leaders, local authorities, and community representatives in disaster readiness.
The appreciation event reflects Sarawak’s wider strategy to build a culture of preparedness, ensuring that communities are supported during emergencies. By recognising the contributions of agencies and individuals, the state aims to encourage continued cooperation and strengthen disaster resilience in Miri.
