10 Local Men Arrested in Miri After Testing Positive for Meth

MIRI – Ten local men were arrested by police after testing positive for methamphetamine during a raid at an entertainment centre along Jalan By Pass early yesterday morning.

Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, said the operation was conducted around 12.15am by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJN) of Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD), led by Inspector Stiffan Lawler Ateng.

According to Mohd Farhan, the team inspected a total of 14 men and five women found at the premises during the raid. All individuals were brought to the Miri IPD BSJN office for urine screening.

“Test results showed that 10 local men tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said in a statement today.

The suspects have been detained at the Miri Central Police Station Lockup for further investigation under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries penalties for drug abuse.

Mohd Farhan also took the opportunity to remind the public, especially youths, to stay away from drug use, calling it one of the most destructive forces in the country.

“Drugs not only destroy lives and families, but they also kill. I urge young people to make wise choices and avoid this dangerous path,” he added.

He further stressed that the police will continue to monitor entertainment outlets and other hotspots across Miri to curb the spread of drug abuse, ensuring that such illegal activities are swiftly dealt with under the law.

The police encouraged the public to share any information related to drug activity by contacting the nearest police station or through the Miri IPD hotline.
