MIRI – Two Indonesian nationals were arrested during an immigration enforcement operation in Simpang Bekenu, Pan Borneo, Miri, on 20 April 2026.
The raid was carried out by the Miri Division Immigration Enforcement Unit following intelligence reports of suspected drug-related activities in the area.
The operation targeted a location believed to be a hub for syabu abuse, allegedly masterminded by foreigners. During the inspection, officers detained two men who failed to produce valid travel documents.
Both suspects were taken into custody under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and residing in Malaysia without proper documentation.
Further searches at the premises uncovered several items believed to be used for drug consumption, including smoking equipment, as well as a sharp weapon. All seized materials have been handed over for investigation.
The enforcement team, consisting of immigration officers supported by logistics, carried out the raid until approximately 6.00pm. No resistance was reported during the arrests.
The Malaysian Immigration Department stressed that it will continue to intensify enforcement operations across Sarawak, particularly in areas identified as crime hotspots.
Officials issued a stern warning to foreigners and employers to comply strictly with immigration laws and regulations, noting that violations will be met with firm action.
Authorities highlighted that such operations are part of broader efforts to combat drug abuse, illegal immigration, and related criminal activities.
By maintaining regular enforcement, the department aims to safeguard communities and uphold national security.
The arrests underscore the importance of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency cooperation in tackling cross-border crime.
Immigration officers reaffirmed their commitment to integrity, professionalism, and public safety, assuring residents that enforcement will remain a priority in Miri and surrounding districts.
