Early Morning Fire Destroys House in Kampung Haji Wahed, Miri

MIRI, 28 May 2025 – A devastating fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, completely destroying a house in Kampung Haji Wahed, Miri.

According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), no victims were injured or trapped during the incident. The emergency call was received by the department’s Operations Centre (PGO) at around 5.15 am.

A spokesperson from JBPM stated that the fire involved a non-permanent structure, which was already fully engulfed in flames when the fire brigade arrived.

“The house was 100 percent destroyed by the fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were the first responders at the scene. They were later joined by personnel from the Miri Central BBP to assist in containing the blaze.

The team swiftly launched a fire extinguishing operation, using a 200-foot hose line and two nozzles connected to the engine pump. The coordinated efforts of the firefighters successfully brought the fire under control and fully extinguished the flames.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, and an assessment will be carried out to determine the full extent of the damage. Kampung Haji Wahed residents have been advised to remain alert and practice fire safety, especially during the dry season.
