MIRI – The Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Sarawak, through the Miri Central Fire and Rescue Station, conducted a Fire Safety Campaign on 16 March 2026 at the Saberkas Night Market / Ramadan Bazaar.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness among traders and the public about fire safety during Ramadan and ahead of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
The campaign, held from 4.00 pm to 5.40 pm, provided information on fire prevention, safe use of cooking equipment, and the importance of keeping fire extinguishers at business premises.
The guidance targeted crowded areas like bazaars, where cooking and trading activities increase the risk of fire incidents.
The programme was led by Nicholas bin Belulin and Mohammad Fairus bin Apit, along with the Bravo Team of seven members.
Their presence highlighted JBPM’s commitment to proactive community engagement and safety awareness during festive periods.
Officials said the campaign reflects JBPM’s wider mission to promote safety-conscious behaviour among the public.
By combining awareness with practical guidance, the department seeks to reduce fire-related incidents and provide a safer environment for both traders and visitors.
Community members welcomed the initiative, noting that such campaigns offer timely reminders about fire safety.
Traders expressed appreciation for the guidance, recognising the importance of preventive measures in protecting lives and property.
JBPM reaffirmed its commitment to continuing similar programmes, ensuring that safety remains a priority during festive gatherings and beyond.
