Man Killed in Motorcycle-Car Crash at Citi Hotel Junction in Miri

MIRI – A 34-year-old man was killed in a tragic accident after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a car at the entrance of Citi Hotel, Jalan Cahaya, here last night.

The victim, identified as Andy Macome Atar, was confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Police Operations Centre (PGO), the crash occurred at around 10.26pm. Emergency services were immediately dispatched after receiving a distress call.

A team from the Miri Fire and Rescue Station (BBP Miri), located about four kilometres away, rushed to the site. Upon arrival, the Operations Commander discovered that the motorcyclist was trapped under a Perodua Myvi involved in the collision.

Firefighters then used specialised rescue equipment to extricate the victim from beneath the vehicle. Sadly, efforts to save him were unsuccessful, and the medical team later confirmed his death at the location.

The victim’s body was handed over to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) for further action, including a detailed investigation into the cause of the crash.

Authorities are expected to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death, while the case will be investigated under the Road Transport Act.

This latest accident has once again highlighted concerns about road safety in Miri, particularly at busy intersections such as the entrance to Citi Hotel along Jalan Cahaya. Residents have long voiced worries over speeding and lack of caution by road users in the area, which has seen several accidents in recent years.

Police have urged the public to always obey traffic rules and practice extra vigilance, especially when driving at night, to prevent further tragedies on Sarawak’s roads.
