IPD Miri Arrested A Suspect for Office Theft Case

MIRI – Police in Miri have confirmed the arrest of a 26-year-old local man in connection with a theft incident at a business premises in Padang Kerbau.

The arrest followed a report lodged on 19 May 2026 at 11.01 am regarding the theft of a duffel bag containing valuables worth RM7,000.

The incident occurred on 18 May 2026 between 9.55 pm and 10.15 pm. Closed-circuit television footage captured a suspect entering the premises, taking the duffel bag from a table, and fleeing the scene.

Following intelligence work, officers from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) of Miri IPD tracked down the suspect in Kampung Sungai Bekenu, Sibuti. He was arrested at approximately 11.00 pm on 19 May 2026.

During the arrest, police seized an iPhone 15 Pro Max belonging to the complainant, along with clothing worn by the suspect, to assist in the investigation.

The suspect has been remanded for three days until 23 May 2026 at the Miri Central Police Station lockup.

Investigations are ongoing under Section 380 of the Penal Code, which covers theft in dwellings or offices. If convicted, the suspect faces a prison sentence of up to 10 years and a fine.

Police emphasised their commitment to protecting public safety and property, noting that community cooperation plays a vital role in crime prevention.
