MIRI – YB Datuk Minister Ts Mustapha Sakmud conducted an official working visit to the Ning Planters Sdn Bhd Pineapple Factory in Sungai Tukau, inspecting operations and exploring opportunities for the growth of Sarawak’s pineapple industry.
The visit provided the minister with a detailed briefing on the industry’s value chain, covering plantation management, processing methods, and the integration of modern technology.
Discussions also highlighted the potential for expansion in the competitive Borneo region, where demand for agro-food products continues to rise.
Emphasising the importance of strengthening the agro-food sector, the minister called for greater use of modern technology, improved productivity, and sustained support for local entrepreneurs.
He noted that these measures are essential to enhance competitiveness and ensure the industry’s long-term sustainability.
The minister stressed that such initiatives align with the MADANI Government’s broader agenda of building a sustainable agricultural ecosystem.
By modernising practices and supporting innovation, the government aims to drive economic growth while improving the well-being of communities across Sarawak.
The pineapple industry has been identified as a sector with strong potential, given its contribution to both domestic consumption and export markets.
With Sarawak’s favourable climate and growing expertise in plantation management, stakeholders believe the industry can play a larger role in diversifying the state’s agricultural output.
During the visit, factory representatives showcased their processing operations, highlighting how technology is being used to improve efficiency and product quality.
