Miri Police Detain Local Man Following Commercial Burglary Case

MIRI – A local man has been taken into police custody following an investigation into a recent commercial burglary in the division.

The individual is suspected of being connected to a break-in that occurred at a commercial premises located along the Phase 2 section of Jalan Lopeng Bypass.

The successful operation was carried out by personnel from the Crime Prevention Branch of the Miri Central Police Station.

Acting on actionable intelligence gathered during their regular duties, the law enforcement team tracked down and intercepted the suspect just after midnight.

Led by Assistant Superintendent Goldy Anak Jangan, officers executed the arrest at approximately 12:30 am in an area situated behind the Petronas petrol station along Jalan Bulan Sabit. The swift action of the officers ensured the suspect was detained without any major incident.

During the course of the operation, law enforcement officers recovered several items of clothing from the scene. Authorities believe these garments were worn by the suspect whilst committing the alleged offence.

The clothing has been officially confiscated to serve as vital physical evidence in the upcoming legal proceedings. Following his arrest, the suspect was transported to the Miri Central Police Station holding facility.

He remains remanded in the lockup to facilitate deeper interrogation and allow investigators to reconstruct the events surrounding the crime. The case is currently being treated as a serious criminal infraction.

Officers are officially conducting their enquiries under Section 457 of the Penal Code, a statutory provision in Malaysia that specifically deals with lurking house-trespass or housebreaking by night in order to commit an offence punishable with imprisonment.

In light of this incident, senior police officials have reiterated the importance of community policing. The regional authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and pro-actively report any suspicious behavior or unusual gatherings in their neighborhoods.
