Apron Donation Boosts Clean Image for Miri Ramadan Bazaar

MIRI – More than 600 traders at the Miri Indoor Stadium Ramadan Bazaar have received specially donated aprons, an initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and enhancing the festive business atmosphere throughout the holy month.

The annual programme was spearheaded by Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts I, who is also the Piasau State Assemblyman. The gesture reflects his ongoing support for small-scale entrepreneurs and community traders.

Speaking on behalf of Datuk Sebastian Ting, his private secretary, Chia Kah Furng, explained that the apron distribution was not only a practical measure but also a symbolic reminder of the importance of hygiene and professionalism in food handling.

“The Ramadan Bazaar is not only a focus for the community to get food to break the fast but also an important platform that connects communities of various races and stimulates the local economy. Therefore, a neat and clean appearance is very significant in building customer confidence,” he said.

He added that the aprons are expected to motivate traders to maintain high standards of cleanliness, reinforcing the bazaar’s reputation as a safe and welcoming venue for visitors.

The Ramadan Bazaar has long been a central attraction in Miri, drawing residents from diverse backgrounds to enjoy traditional delicacies and festive offerings.

Beyond its cultural significance, the bazaar plays a vital role in supporting local economic activity, providing opportunities for small traders to showcase their products and sustain their livelihoods.

The apron initiative also aligns with broader efforts to ensure food safety and hygiene at public events. Clean attire and professional presentation are increasingly seen as essential in building consumer trust, particularly in food-related businesses.

Community leaders and councillors, including Leslie Lau, Lisa Yu, and Chai Woei Yih, were present at the handover ceremony, further underscoring the collaborative spirit behind the initiative. Their attendance highlighted the importance of local governance in supporting grassroots entrepreneurship and fostering community pride.

The donation reflects a wider commitment to uplifting small traders during Ramadan, ensuring that the bazaar remains not only a place of commerce but also a hub of cultural unity and shared celebration.

With the support of local leaders and the dedication of traders, the Miri Ramadan Bazaar continues to thrive as a vibrant marketplace, embodying both tradition and modern standards of cleanliness.
