Miri Red Crescent Dialysis Centre Expands Services with Community Backing

MIRI – The Miri Red Crescent Kidney Dialysis Centre (KDC), a vital charitable healthcare provider, continues to expand its services to meet growing demand, relying on sustained community and corporate support.

The centre operates two key facilities in Miri, located in Pujut and Permyjaya, collectively serving hundreds of patients from across the region.

The Permyjaya branch, which became fully operational in March 2023, was established to address the increasing number of patients.

It is equipped with over 50 dialysis machines and also provides essential ambulance services to bridge the considerable distance to Miri Hospital for emergency transfers.

Meanwhile, the original Pujut centre, operating since 1996, is currently undergoing a major RM4 million upgrade to refurbish its aging structure and replace 30 dialysis machines.

Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin recently emphasised that the centre is a charity organisation and not a government entity, depending entirely on community support and corporate donations to continue its operations.

He highlighted that the two centres currently support 326 dialysis patients, with the Permyjaya branch catering to many low-income patients from Tudan and surrounding areas.

The centre provides an affordable and comfortable treatment environment, with subsidies offered to patients from disadvantaged groups based on their family’s economic situation.

Recent community initiatives have been crucial. A 2025 charity fun run organised by a local company raised over MYR 16,500 for the centre.

In a separate event, four local Lions Clubs jointly donated a dialysis machine worth RM45,000, demonstrating ongoing corporate and organisational commitment to community healthcare.

The Malaysian Red Crescent Miri Chapter has been consistently lauded for its broader humanitarian work, which includes running these dialysis centres alongside a special needs children’s centre and extensive volunteer training programmes.

The organisation continues to focus on nurturing volunteerism among youths, believing that early exposure to humanitarian values creates compassionate, lifelong agents of social responsibility.
