Three Locals Arrested in Miri Theft Case, Police Seize Stolen Car

MIRI – Police have arrested three individuals, including two men and a woman, in connection with a theft case in the Miri District, authorities confirmed yesterday. The operation was carried out following a tip-off that led to swift police action.

Acting on information received on January 1, 2026, a team from the Miri District Police Headquarters (IPD Miri), led by Insp. Ardian Sha Bin Ali Rahman, apprehended two local men at the car park behind the Miri City Medical Centre along Jalan Hockien. The arrests were part of an ongoing investigation into reported theft incidents in the district.

Later the same day, at approximately 1:30 pm, the police team successfully detained a woman at her residence located at Lot 1085, RPR Piasau Phase 2, Piasau Jaya 2A, Miri. During the operation, a Proton Saga with the registration number JVQ 3096, reported missing in Batu Niah, was recovered and seized as evidence for the case under reference number Btu Niah/RPT/01476/25.

The three suspects are currently held at the Miri Central Police Station lockup while investigations continue under Section 379A of the Penal Code, which deals with theft. Authorities emphasized that those involved in criminal activities will face strict legal action. The public is urged to avoid any involvement in crime and to report suspicious activities promptly to assist the police in maintaining safety in Miri District.

“The swift action reflects the commitment of IPD Miri to ensure the safety and security of the public. Cooperation from the community remains vital in combating crime effectively,” Insp. Ardian said.

This latest operation serves as a reminder of the police’s zero-tolerance approach toward theft and other criminal acts, reinforcing public trust in law enforcement efforts across the district.
