Two Men Arrested Over Trespassing Case in Miri Residential Area

Two Men Arrested Over Trespassing Case in Miri Residential Area

MIRI, Jan 13 — Police in Miri have arrested two local men believed to be involved in a trespassing incident at a residential area in Pujut, in a move aimed at maintaining public safety and order in the district.

The arrests were carried out at about 1.15 pm on Tuesday during an operation led by Miri Police Station Chief, Assistant Superintendent of Police Goldy Anak Jangan, together with officers from the Miri Central Police Station Crime Prevention Unit. The suspects were detained at a location along Jalan Pujut Corner, Miri.

According to police sources, the two men are suspected of unlawfully entering a residential property, an act which had caused concern among local residents. Following the arrest, police also seized clothing believed to have been worn by the suspects during the incident. The items are expected to be used as evidence to support the ongoing investigation.

Both suspects have been remanded at the Miri Central Police Station lockup to facilitate further investigations. The case is being investigated under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which deals with criminal trespass. If found guilty, offenders may face legal penalties as provided under the law.

ASP Goldy said the swift action taken by the police reflects the authorities’ firm stance against crimes that threaten the safety and peace of residential communities. He added that trespassing, though sometimes viewed as a minor offence, can lead to more serious crimes and create fear among the public if not addressed promptly.

The police also took the opportunity to remind the public to respect the law and refrain from engaging in any form of criminal activity, including trespassing. Such actions not only put individuals at risk of legal consequences but may also endanger the safety of others.

Members of the public are encouraged to cooperate with the police by providing any information related to criminal activities in their areas. Timely information from the community can greatly assist the police in preventing crime and taking early action against offenders.

The Miri District Police remain committed to strengthening security measures and ensuring that residents can live in a safe and peaceful environment. Continued cooperation between the public and the authorities is seen as key to maintaining law and order across the district.
