Two Men Jailed for Trespassing into Miri Home Garden

MIRI – The Magistrate’s Court in Miri has sentenced two men to two months’ imprisonment after they admitted to criminal trespass at a residential property in Jalan Promin Jaya 1.

The incident took place on 20 April 2026 at around 1.00 am. The homeowner, alerted by noises at the back of the house, discovered one of the men inside the garden area.

The suspect was apprehended by the complainant, while his accomplice fled the scene. Police were later contacted to take further action.

Investigations revealed that the two men, aged 28 and 36, had climbed over the fence to gain access to the property without permission.

Both were subsequently charged under Section 441 of the Penal Code, which defines criminal trespass, and sentenced under Section 447 of the Penal Code.

The law provides for a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM3,000, or both. The court handed down a custodial sentence of two months, reflecting the seriousness of the offence.

Authorities emphasised that trespassing into private property is a criminal act that undermines public safety and community trust.

Miri District Police Chief reminded residents to remain vigilant and to prioritise home security. He urged the public not to hesitate in reporting suspicious activity to the police, stressing that community cooperation is vital in maintaining safety and order.

Officers reiterated that timely reporting can help prevent crimes and ensure swift enforcement action.
