Fire Destroys Store in Tudan Desaras, Miri

MIRI – A temporary store at Lot 1227, Tudan Desaras Phase 6, Lorong Perdana 3A, was completely destroyed in a fire on Saturday afternoon, according to a statement from the Fire and Rescue Department Malaysia (JBPM) Zone 6 Sarawak.

The Lutong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received an emergency call at 2:57 PM and promptly dispatched a team with an FRT Scania engine to the site, located approximately 9 kilometers from the station.

Arriving at 3:06 PM, firefighters found the 15ft x 20ft store fully engulfed in flames. Senior Operations Officer PBK I (TBBK II) Iskandar Bin Aus reported that the team used a 100-foot hose stream and a single nozzle, drawing water from the engine tank, to extinguish the fire by 3:20 PM. “The structure was 100% destroyed. Overhaul operations were conducted to ensure no embers remained that could reignite,” he said.

The operation concluded at 3:40 PM, with firefighters departing the scene at 3:52 PM and returning to the station by 4:10 PM. Senior Fire Officer II Henry Ak Jugah oversaw the operations, joined by representatives from the police and Sesco. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The cause of the fire and the extent of financial losses are under investigation. Authorities urge the public to prioritize safety measures to prevent similar incidents, emphasizing vigilance in maintaining safe environments.
