SELANGAU – Rural development in Selangau is set to accelerate with the strategic implementation of key infrastructure and economic projects under the Central Rajang Regional Development Agency (MiRRDA), according to Selangau Member of Parliament Edwin Banta.

Speaking at the “Leaders Together with the People” ceremony held in conjunction with the completion of a roof installation project at Rumah Dali, Pasir Terabai, Nanga Tamin, Edwin said MiRRDA is playing a pivotal role in transforming the region’s long-neglected interior areas.

“MiRRDA is a new catalyst for the coordinated delivery of essential infrastructure such as roads, electricity, and clean water – facilities that are urgently needed by over 800 longhouses across the Selangau constituency,” he said.

He noted that MiRRDA also enables the streamlined rollout of socio-economic initiatives, including oil palm and coffee plantation projects aimed at boosting household incomes for rural communities.

Edwin reaffirmed his commitment to remain on the ground, actively monitoring development progress and ensuring no community is left behind. “Our goal is equitable development. Every area under Selangau must benefit fairly from government initiatives,” he emphasised.

Addressing concerns on the distribution of Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds, Edwin explained that allocations are made in stages based on urgency and priority. He urged residents to be patient and trust the transparent process in place.

The MP also called on Tuai Rumah (longhouse chiefs) to exercise strong and forward-thinking leadership. “We need grassroots leaders who are proactive, inclusive, and competitive to ensure our communities do not fall behind,” he stressed.

The event was well attended by local residents and community leaders, including Penghulu Surang Takin and Penghulu Bangsa Kunchau, reflecting a shared spirit of unity and optimism for Selangau’s development future.
