KUCHING, 4 Nov 2025 (Tuesday) – A peaceful fishing trip turned tragic when a man who went missing early this morning was found dead in the waters near Batu Penyu Laki, Matang, this evening.
According to the Kuching Civil Defence Force (APM Kuching), an emergency call was received at 5.25 pm from the public reporting a missing person (LLK) case. The complainant stated that the victim had left home alone at around 3 am to go fishing but failed to return as usual.
Villagers became alarmed when they discovered the victim’s boat drifting unmanned at around 4 pm near the Batu Penyu Laki area. Following the report, APM Kuching officers were immediately dispatched to the scene to meet with the victim’s family and carry out a search operation along the river.
The search, assisted by local villagers, continued into the night. At approximately 9.04 pm, the victim’s lifeless body was found about 2 kilometres from the Agriculture Department’s premises in Matang.
Authorities have not released the victim’s identity pending notification of next-of-kin. The cause of death is under investigation, though no foul play has been reported at this stage.
APM Kuching expressed appreciation to the local villagers for their swift cooperation in the search and recovery effort.
