KUCHING – Residents in Kuching will have access to government services through mobile counters set up at two local markets this Saturday, 11 April 2026.
The initiative, organised by the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) under the leadership of Mayor Wee Hong Seng, aims to make it easier for the public to apply for government benefits and services without needing to travel far.
One mobile service counter will operate at the Sungai Ah Bang Food Market in New Fishing Village, running from 8am to 9am. Another will be stationed at the Sungai Apong Market during the same time slot.
Mayor Wee explained that the programme is designed to bring services closer to the people, particularly those living in areas where access to government offices may be limited.
By setting up counters at busy community hubs such as local markets, the council hopes to reach more residents and ensure that assistance is delivered efficiently.
The mobile counters will provide support for applications related to government benefits and welfare programmes.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to seek guidance and submit applications directly at the counters.
This initiative reflects MBKS’s broader commitment to community service and inclusivity, ensuring that essential government support is accessible to all.
The council has been actively rolling out similar programmes across Kuching to strengthen engagement with local communities.
Mayor Wee emphasised that the weekly service counters are part of ongoing efforts to improve public service delivery. “We are here to serve the community,” he said, reaffirming the council’s dedication to grassroots support.
The programme also highlights the importance of local markets as centres of community life, where residents gather not only for trade but also for social interaction.
By situating services in these locations, the council is tapping into existing community networks to maximise outreach.
With rising demand for accessible government services, initiatives such as these mobile counters are expected to play a key role in ensuring that residents of Kuching continue to receive timely assistance.
