Mooncake Festival Unites Sungai Maong Residents in Spirit of Harmony

KUCHING: The Sungai Maong Friendly Neighbourhood (KJM) successfully organised a vibrant Mooncake Festival celebration with the local community at the Sungai Maong Multipurpose Hall, bringing together residents in the true spirit of unity and togetherness.

The joyous event was graced by Yang Berbahagia Dato Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman, Mayor of Kuching North, who commended the initiative for fostering stronger community relations. He highlighted that such gatherings reflect the shared values of understanding and cooperation among the diverse races living under the administration of the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU).

“This Mooncake Festival not only celebrates culture but also strengthens the bond among residents. It is through community activities like this that we continue to uphold unity and mutual respect,” said Dato Haji Hilmy in his address.

The festival featured a variety of cultural activities, lantern displays, and mooncake-sharing sessions that brought smiles to both young and old participants. The cheerful atmosphere showcased the warmth and cooperation that define Sungai Maong’s community spirit.

Also present at the event were Yang Berusaha Encik Sih Hua Tong, Council Member and Chairman of KJM Sungai Maong; Encik Rudzaimeir bin Malek, Deputy Director of the DBKU Community Services Department; and Encik Ramli bin Omar Baki, Head of the Community Development & Services (CDS) Division, DBKU.

The Mooncake Festival serves as one of DBKU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen social harmony among the multi-racial communities under its jurisdiction. Such celebrations play an important role in promoting inclusivity and cultural appreciation while maintaining the traditional values of respect and friendship.

In line with DBKU’s vision of building a caring and united society, the event successfully embodied the essence of Malaysia’s “Keluarga Malaysia” spirit — where people of all backgrounds come together to celebrate their shared heritage. – BDKU
