MIRI, 15 April 2025 – A young motorcyclist tragically lost his life in an early morning accident involving two motorcycles on Jalan Miri Bypass, not far from Vista Perdana, yesterday.
Miri District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Alexson Naga Chabu, confirmed in a press statement that the fatal crash occurred at 5.00 am on Monday.

According to initial investigations, the 20-year-old victim was travelling from Vista Perdana towards Miri Airport when he suddenly lost control of his motorcycle and fell onto the road.

At the same time, a 17-year-old local boy riding another motorcycle from behind could not avoid the fallen rider and hit him.
“The victim died on the spot. Miri Hospital’s ambulance arrived shortly after and confirmed his death at the scene,” said ACP Alexson.
The 17-year-old rider, however, survived the incident with no life-threatening injuries.
Police are continuing their investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which deals with reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
This tragic accident highlights yet again the dangers of early morning rides, especially on high-speed roads such as the Miri Bypass, which has seen a number of serious incidents in the past.
Members of the public are urged to exercise caution and stay alert, especially during low-light hours and when traffic is sparse, as visibility can be limited.
The police are also appealing to witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation.
Let us all remember to prioritise road safety – every life matters.
