Motorcyclist Injured After Skidding Into Drain in Lutong

MIRI: A man was rushed to hospital after the motorcycle he was riding skidded and fell into a large drain near the Petronas Lutong area here on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM) Zone 6 Sarawak, the Lutong Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.55 pm. The location of the accident was about seven kilometres from the station.

Upon receiving the distress call, a team of firefighters was immediately dispatched to the scene using a Scania Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicle. The team arrived at 1.03 pm and began the rescue operation at 1.04 pm.

The Operation Commander said initial findings indicated that the victim had lost control of his motorcycle before skidding off the road and falling into a large drain. The motorcycle involved was identified as a SYM 110.

Firefighters worked closely with personnel from the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) to remove the injured man from the drain safely. The rescue was carried out swiftly to prevent further injury to the victim.

After being brought out from the drain, the victim was handed over to the ambulance team for immediate medical attention. He was then transported to the hospital for further treatment. However, the extent of his injuries has yet to be confirmed at the time of reporting.

Two police officers were also present at the scene to assist with traffic control and to ensure the safety of other road users during the operation. Three ambulance personnel were involved in providing medical support.

The entire operation was brought under control within a short period and officially concluded at 1.06 pm.

Road users are reminded to exercise caution, especially when travelling through busy industrial areas such as Lutong. Sudden loss of control can happen at any time, and adherence to traffic rules as well as safe riding practices remains crucial in preventing accidents.

Authorities are expected to conduct further investigations to determine the exact cause of the incident.
