KUCHING, June 8 — A 48-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a tragic road accident after he allegedly lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into a road barrier along Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub in the early hours of Friday morning.
The fatal accident occurred at approximately 4.30am on June 6 and involved a Keeway K-Light 202 motorcycle. The incident is now under investigation by the police.
According to Kuching District Police Chief, ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was travelling from the direction of the Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub Bridge towards Kuching city centre when the accident happened.
Initial findings indicate that the rider is believed to have lost control of the motorcycle before crashing into a barrier located on the right side of the road.
The impact of the collision caused the victim to suffer severe head injuries. Medical personnel from Sarawak General Hospital who arrived at the scene later confirmed the man’s death at 4.42am.
Following the incident, the victim’s body was transported to the Forensic Department of Sarawak General Hospital for a post-mortem examination and further procedures.
Police have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Road accidents involving motorcycles continue to be a major concern in Malaysia, particularly during late-night and early-morning hours when visibility is lower and traffic conditions may vary. Authorities have repeatedly reminded road users to remain vigilant, obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are in safe operating condition before travelling.
The latest fatality serves as another reminder of the importance of road safety and caution, especially for motorcyclists who are among the most vulnerable road users on Malaysian roads.
