MPKS Strengthens Education Ties with Samarahan District Office

KOTA SAMARAHAN – The Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) conducted a courtesy visit to the Samarahan District Education Office (PPD Samarahan) on 27 February 2026, aiming to reinforce collaboration in education and community development.

The delegation was led by Kr. Abang Ismawi bin Abang Ali, Chairman of MPKS, accompanied by the Deputy Chairman, the Municipal Secretary, council members, and division heads.

The meeting focused on strengthening ties between local government and the education sector, with particular emphasis on sustainability and child-friendly initiatives.

One of the key discussions centred on the upcoming MPKS Level School Recycling Competition. The programme seeks to encourage schools to adopt environmentally sustainable practices, instilling awareness among students and staff about the importance of recycling.

MPKS highlighted the need for active participation from schools, with PPD Samarahan expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring widespread involvement.

Beyond environmental efforts, both parties explored opportunities for broader cooperation in community activities planned for the year.

Among the initiatives highlighted was the Child-Friendly City programme, designed to create safe, inclusive, and supportive urban spaces for children’s growth and development.

This initiative reflects MPKS’s commitment to building a city environment that prioritises the well-being of younger generations.

The meeting also underscored the importance of strategic partnerships between local councils and education offices.

By working together, MPKS and PPD Samarahan aim to ensure that programmes deliver tangible benefits not only to schools but also to the wider community.

The council expressed optimism that closer collaboration would enhance the effectiveness of planned activities, fostering a stronger sense of community engagement.

Environmental sustainability and child-centred development have become increasingly important in Sarawak’s urban planning agenda.

Local councils across the state have been introducing initiatives to align with global sustainability goals while addressing the needs of their communities.

The recycling competition and child-friendly city programme are part of MPKS’s broader vision to integrate education, environmental awareness, and social development.

As the visit concluded, both MPKS and PPD Samarahan reaffirmed their commitment to long-term cooperation.

The council expressed confidence that these joint efforts would contribute to a more resilient, inclusive, and environmentally conscious Kota Samarahan.
